Child Life Specialist – Burlington, ON

Overview

Valley Connections Counselling is a close-knit team of Mental Health professionals dedicated to providing counselling and psychotherapeutic support to our community. We have been established since 2016, and we are seeking a well-trained and dedicated Certified Child Life Specialist (CLS) to join our team. As a CLS , you will provide therapeutic services to child and adolescents clients and their families, in-person in our Burlington clinic, supplementing at times with some virtual work.

As an independently contracted CLS, your responsibilities will include the following:

  • conducting consults and intakes to meet potential clients and/or their parents
  • administering non-diagnostic assessments
  • developing individualized treatment plans
  • implementing various evidence-based counselling methods in the context of developing long-term therapeutic relationships with clients and their families
  • collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and holistic care
  • monitoring client progress and adjusting treatment plans as necessary
  • maintaining accurate and up-to-date client records
  • participating in case conferences and team meetings as required
  • staying informed and trained about current research and developments in the field of child therapy and development

Required Experience and Training

  • 3-5 years experience working with children and adolescents in a clinical and/or therapeutic setting
  • training in counselling modalities such as CBT and DBT
  • proficiency in Owl Practice software is highly desirable
  • strong humanistic skills, including empathy, active listening, and communication
  • ability to effectively manage cases and coordinate care with other professionals
  • desire to work in a team environment, while also possessing strong independent skills

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Pediatric Psychosocial Care or equivalent
  • Professional registration in good standing with the (Association of Child Life Professionals) ACLP as a Child Life Specialist, demonstrating ongoing commitment and adherence to its Standards of Practice and Policies is required
  • Willingness to engage in regular and ongoing professional and clinical supervision as it pertains to clinical practice with a clinical supervisor approved by the director of Valley Connections Counselling
  • Additional professional registration with CCPA or OAMHP is an asset
  • Must possess current Professional Liability Insurance and a Vulnerable Sector Screen
