Body Image & Disordered Eating
Our relationship with our bodies and food is deeply intertwined with our emotional world, our history, and how we learned to navigate safety in our environments. Struggles with body image and disordered eating often go far beyond surface-level concerns about food or appearance; they frequently serve as coping mechanisms for managing overwhelming stress, underlying trauma, perfectionism, or a deep yearning for control and acceptance. Through a compassionate, trauma-informed lens, we recognize that harsh self-criticism and rigid food rules are often protective parts of you trying to manage vulnerability.
In our work together, we focus on moving away from shame and shame-based cycles, and toward a compassionate, relational understanding of your body. Utilizing evidence-based modalities like Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness-Based therapy, Attachment-Based therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we help you explore the emotional roots of your relationship with food and your physical self. Our goal is to help you cultivate a felt sense of safety in your body, quiet the internal critic, and develop a flexible, nurturing relationship with yourself that honors your whole story.
