Meghan Cooze, Child Life Specialist
Hello, my name is Meghan (she/her)! I am a Certified Child Life Specialist at Valley Connections Counselling in Burlington and Dundas. As a child life specialist, I provide developmentally and psychologically appropriate therapeutic interventions to help children and adolescents cope with psychosocial issues and process the challenges of grief, trauma, illness, injury, disability, and transitions.
As a graduate of McMaster University’s Master of Science program in Child Life and Pediatric Psychosocial Care, I completed two clinical internships at McMaster Children’s Hospital and North York General Hospital. I also hold a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Guelph in Family Studies and Human Development, along with a Graduate Certificate from Seneca College in Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health.
My focus is to establish a trusting and supportive relationship with children and youth while creating a safe and fun environment to comfortably express feelings and emotions. Utilizing evidence-based approaches, I facilitate interventions through therapeutic play, art, and other creative expressive forums. My goal with children and youth is to promote emotional literacy, create emotional expression opportunities, and teach and rehearse effective coping skills. I believe in using a family-centered approach to care and understand the developmental contexts in which children and families live and grow to foster resilience and overall well-being.
My therapeutic approach is strengths-based, compassionate and fun! I provide a complimentary 30-minute consultation to determine if I am the right fit for you and your family. I would love to meet you and support you along your journey!
Meghan's fees may be eligible for insurance coverage under extended health benefit plans. Please note: It is your responsibility to find out from your employer and/or insurance company about the type of mental health coverage you have. Please find out the details of your benefits package before booking and attending your therapy sessions. Should you attend sessions and later learn that your insurance company will not cover your therapy sessions, you are responsible for paying for the fees of all attended sessions as well as any future sessions you choose to attend.
