Kaitlyn Evans

Registered Psychotherapist

Hi! My name is Kaitlyn Evans (she/her) and I’m a Registered Psychotherapist. I provide individual, couples, and family therapy for Valley Connections Counselling in Burlington, as well as virtually.

The choice to start therapy and the subsequent process of choosing a therapist can feel pretty overwhelming (and also really important). Time and time again, research has demonstrated that the relationship you have with your therapist (how safe and comfortable you feel with them) is
what determines how successful therapy will be. Below, you’ll find information about my experience, areas of interest and credentials that might help you make your decision. I’ll also share a little about myself, personally.

I’ve been a psychotherapist for almost ten years. I have a warm, open style and incorporate humour as often as possible. My areas of interest are working with adults, particularly women, who are struggling with challenges related to anxiety, overwhelm, self-esteem/self-confidence
and life transitions. I work with families who are looking to strengthen their relationships. I also have special interest (and training) in working with parents who are feeling like their own ‘stuff’ might be getting in the way of how they want to show up for their kids.

My therapy practice is grounded in two core beliefs: the importance of relationships (whether with ourselves or others) in healing and taking time to understand the context in which behaviours/patterns occur. I practice therapy from a systems theory lens. Put simply, this means that I put great emphasis on the impact our relationships, environments and experiences have on the challenges we experience; nothing happens in isolation. Outside of these core beliefs, I also pull from other modalities of therapy such as narrative therapy, emotion focused therapy (EFT), solution-focused therapy (SFT) and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I am trauma informed and welcome clients from the LGBTQ+ community.

I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology (BA, Hons.) from the University of Guelph and my master’s degree in Couple and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. I am registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and am also registered as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Florida (license is currently inactive). After working in community mental health in Florida, I moved back to Canada and started working for the Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK) where I’ve been for the past five and a half years. During my time there, I provided individual and family therapy as well as parent support groups.

I love spending time outdoors, especially on the water. I am an avid sports fan and music enthusiast. I love cooking, baking and most importantly, spending time with my friends and family (including my two fur nephews, Gus and Teddy).

If you are interested in working together, or getting to know more about me, I provide free, 30-minute consultations to help you determine if I’m the best fit. Please don’t hesitate to contact admin@valleyconnectionscounselling.ca
