Valley Connections Counselling

Jeweley Smith, BA, MACP (cand.)
Counselling Intern

My name is Jeweley Smith and I am an intern providing counselling and psychotherapy for Valley Connections Counselling. I am currently studying my Masters in Counselling Psychology (MACP) from Yorkville University. I first attended Fanshawe College where I graduated with a Human Services Certificate. I also studied Psychology and Family and Child Studies at University of Guelph where I graduated with my BA degree.  I have worked in an elementary school setting assisting children with mental health issues. I also have experience facilitating CBT mindfulness groups for teens through CMHA, and helped them develop successful coping strategies to manage anxiety and depression.

I have always had a passion for helping others, especially in the mental health field. My priority is to incorporate a warm, comfortable, safe environment that allows each client to express themselves freely, while I work to foster a strong therapeutic relationship. I provide counselling to a wide range of clients including children, youth and adults, providing individual, couples and family therapy.  I treat a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, grief, phobias and life transition difficulties.

It is important to me that I work collaboratively with all clients and provide unconditional positive regard.  Each individual person is unique, and I strive to accommodate different needs by providing a range of treatment options as I become increasingly proficient in them, including CBT, DBT, Imago, Narrative Therapy, MBCT, Motivational Interviewing, and the Gottman Method.

Our Counselling Interns offer 30 minute consultations at no charge, as well as counselling sessions at a reduced rate.
