Jeweley Smith, BA, MACP (cand.)
My name is Jeweley Smith and I am an intern providing counselling and psychotherapy for Valley Connections Counselling. I am currently studying my Masters in Counselling Psychology (MACP) from Yorkville University. I first attended Fanshawe College where I graduated with a Human Services Certificate. I also studied Psychology and Family and Child Studies at University of Guelph where I graduated with my BA degree. I have worked in an elementary school setting assisting children with mental health issues. I also have experience facilitating CBT mindfulness groups for teens through CMHA, and helped them develop successful coping strategies to manage anxiety and depression.
I have always had a passion for helping others,
especially in the mental health field. My priority is to incorporate a warm,
comfortable, safe environment that allows each client to express themselves
freely, while I work to foster a strong therapeutic relationship. I provide counselling to a wide range of clients
including children, youth and adults, providing individual, couples and family therapy. I treat a variety of issues including
depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, grief, phobias and life transition difficulties.
is important to me that I work collaboratively with all clients and provide
unconditional positive regard. Each individual person is unique, and I strive to
accommodate different needs by providing a range of treatment options as I become increasingly proficient in them, including CBT, DBT, Imago, Narrative Therapy, MBCT, Motivational Interviewing, and the Gottman Method.
