My name is Danielle McCallum and I am a Registered Psychotherapist providing Counselling and Psychotherapy for Valley Connections Counselling.

I am
registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) as a Registered Psychotherapist.  I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) from Yorkville University, and an Honours Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour (Hons, BA) from McMaster University. As part of my continuing education, I am trained in Restorative Practice, Behaviour Management Systems, The Gottman Method for Couples Counselling Levels One and Two, Trauma Informed Mindfulness Practice, and have a special interest in Mindfulness and Meditation, practicing through Silent Retreats in the Hamilton Area, as well as daily through my experiences with nature and exercise.

I work with a wide range of clients to support positive changes through an emotion-focused, client-centered approach to healing and growth. I work with adults, children, couples, and families who come into therapy with a variety of presenting issues, including: Depression, Anxiety, Addictions, Bipolar Disorder, Agoraphobia, and Eating Disorders. I also help individuals manage stress surrounding: work related stress, relationship problems, self-esteem issues, grief, transitions in life and issues with self-expression.

Although each client is different, and therefore my approach may differ depending on client
need, I highlight the importance of building a therapeutic relationship with all of my clients.  As a Psychotherapist, I believe in the importance of a safe space. For many individuals, taking the next step by reaching out and attending counselling can be a difficult hurdle. Therefore, I make it a priority during my sessions to ensure individuals feel relaxed and at ease: thus, setting the stage for positive growth.

From a technical standpoint, I utilize an eclectic sample of techniques from a variety of approaches that I find are most helpful for clients. This can include: Mindfulness practices, Cognitive Behavioural techniques, Imago Couples dialogues, Creative Expression activities, Dialectical Behaviour approaches as well as the use of psychoeducation when applicable.
